So a guy posted a pretty funny, pretty acurate comparison between fishing and different aspects of R/C:

So while I was driving from job to job, I did some thinking. Having been an avid fisherman, I realized some comparison between different disciplines of fishing and RC. So here it is:

RC Helicopters: Like Bass fishing or offshore sport fishing, fast, expensive and exciting, requiring great skill and concentration.

RC Airplanes: Like going out with your Grampa in his 14 foot aluminum boat with 1956 Johnson 5 horse and 50’s vintage tackle. He does it this way because he has always done it this way and doesn’t need any of that new fangled stuff so just sit still and quit fidgeting darnit!.

RC Boats: Like lake or walleye fishing, you just troll along, make sure you don’t hit anything, and wait for the fun to start.

RC Sailplanes: Like flyfishing, you need to have the super snobby gear and attitude, and get really, really stoked when you bag a 1/2 pound brown trout.

RC Cars: Like that dude who goes to the nearest creek with a bucket, some worms, and a Wal-mart pole, wearing a dirty wifebeater and driving an old Ford Escort. Probably eats what he catches, and doesn’t know or care about the industrial waste being pumped into the water upstream.

There is some gray area stuff like turbine jets and stuff, but we’ll get into that another day….

Ouch

Sirius XM

SO here I am at work flipping between Alt Nation (formerly Ethel) and Lithium (formerly Lucy) on my XM radio. I did the same thing last night too. I have realized that they took all the soul out of th estations. All the DJs are gone. They have some Regan guy in the morning on Alt Nation (Regan? Seriously?) who is a complete douchebag. They did away with all the unique in-studio mixes XM had and played. They did away with playing people you’ve never heard of that were really good. They got rid of Cane and Stabwalt and Eric and my favorite, Jeremiah. They left the stations with no spirit, no comedy, no individuality. In short, fuck you Sirius. You ruined my XM experience. I could never picture getting rid of my XM radio but with the way they butchered my favorite stations and made them exactly like what our shitty Z99 plays, I can’t justify paying you guys any longer. There were times I was dead fucking broke and I still would scrounge up the money to pay my XM bill. That is over and I think I’m going to cancel my subsription.

Right before posting this I sent a complaint to Sirius XM and part way through writing this I got this e-mail which is standard fluff:

RIP Don S. Davis, Velvet Revolver

[ 1 Comment ] Posted on 06.30.08 under In The News

It seems this site is becoming an obituary for people I admire. Yesterday Don S. David, AKA General Hammond from Stargate SG-1 passed away due to heart attack. No matter the role he played throughout his acting career, he was always believeable. He was never over the top or too subtle. I know he was loved by all and he will definitely be missed by all. Thank you for your contributions on and off screen Don. You are missed. His wife Ruby Fleming-Davis announced:
Dear Fans and Friends of Don S. Davis, So many of you have been touched by not only the work and art of Don S. Davis, but by the man himself, who always took the time to be with you at the appearances he loved, that it is with a tremendous sense of loss I must share with you that Don passed away from a massive heart attack on Sunday morning, June 29th. On behalf of his family and wife, Ruby, we thank you for your prayers and condolences. A family memorial where Don’s ashes will be scattered in the ocean will take place in a few weeks, and should you wish to, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in Don’s memory.
In other news Scott Weiland,  lead singer and frontman for Velvet Revolver is no longer part of the group. Apparently he was a victim of lead singer’s disease, aka bloated head and cockiness. This is a huge blow for me as I thought it was the best group of all time (literally). It had my favotire musicians and my favorite singer. Velvet Revolver will continue on with a new singer. They are doing interviews now.

R.I.P.

There are few people I truly respect. One of those people died yesterday at the age of 71. His name was George Carlin and he was a stand up comedian. Why would I place a stand up comedian at the highest pinnacle of my social ladder? Because he truly was a great guy. He tried to change the world through his comedy. He pointed out problems and put them in funny skits so that people would remember them. He ventured where others have fallen and he managed to sustain himself above the backlash (see Bill Cosby). The false anger he presented wasn’t really false. He hated the way things were going. He took it in his power to change that as best as anybody could. Carlin told Playboy in 2005 that he looked forward to an afterlife where he could watch the decline of civilization on a “heavenly CNN.” I hope your get the best reception. Rest assured you made a difference.

May Long Weekend 2008

[ No Comments ] Posted on 05.22.08 under Blog

Yes it was short but I spent May long weekend with my buddy Steve. We went on a motorcycle trip down southern Alberta, into BC, and back up again, spending most of the time in the mountains. We got some sore backs and asses but it was fun. I posted pictures in my gallery (now visible on the left sidebar) of the trip. All pictures were taken on my Nikon F80, developed and put on cd, then brought back and re sized so they aren’t GINORMOUS. None have been altered in any way. Lenses used are Nikon 50mm f1.8 and Nikon 28-85mm f3.5-4.5. A circular polariser was used for all shots with the 28-85mm. A gel ND4 filter was used for some of the 50mm shots, and only UV filter for all others. I haven’t listed what lens I used with each shot, as really, I never write that info down. I never write any info down, but if you ask about a particular shot, I could take a good guess at what settings and lenses and filters were used.

EDIT: Forgot to say that you can add comments once signed up and logged in.

I had 6 roll sof film to develop (4 older ones I never got around to) and it cost over $100 to do, so I sucked it up and picked up a brand new Nikon D80. I haven’t gone and taken any serious pics with it yet but I have been testing it out and getting the hang of it and am very impressed. This camera should lead me to taking far more and consequentially far better pics (though I’m pretty decent as is, but there’s always room for improvement). The digital will allow me to take many more pics and not spend money for doing so. Yes, I very well could take 50+ pics for a single shot each with minor differences now. Keep checking the gallery as I will keep adding more and more.

Apparently Americans aren’t the only stupid people out there. There’s of course a select few people we could refer to as mentally inadequate or handicapped in other countries as well. A Vietnamese man in Norway got duped by a French man (this is starting to sound like a bar joke) into leaving his $35,000 as well as blank bills (how he got these I have no idea) to be left in a pot of a “special liquid” overnight. This special liquid I guess was supposed to somehow copy the bills onto the blanks, doubling the amount of money. Of course the French man took the money and ran, and got caught (dunno if it makes me happy he did or not). I’m just astounded somebody could actually trick another human being into believing this crap. Do I feel sorry for the Vietnamese guy? No.

If you’re a pirate or other sea-faring folk, you might be interested in perhaps the coolest graveyard you will ever see. It is located 45 feet beneath the ocean’s surface, 3 1/4 miles off the coast of Key Biscayne. Yes, that’s right, it’s underwater. After you are cremated they mold you into a special cement and bury you in the reef. You will eventually become part of the reef itself, increasing it’s size. Apparently the cement used as well as the bronzes used in everything are the same ph as the water, so it won’t harm anything. Prices for being buried there are also VERY reasonable, ie cheaper than a coffin.

Do you have a mac? Have you been debating about getting a .mac account? Well, maybe this will tip your scales. A woman who had her laptop stolen used the program “Back to My Mac” to access it’s web cam and take pictures of the thiefs. She didn’t recognize the people but one of her roommates did. Apparently they were at a party at their place a few weeks earlier. One of those friend of a friend deals. She took the pictures and info to the cops and they were arrested. Most of the stolen property was recovered. Honestly I didn’t know you could do that and I applaud this woman for her resourcefulness.

That wacky Estonia. They just keep getting weirder it seems. They have actually slapped a fart tax on cattle farmers because their cows fart and produce methane gas. Have you ever heard of such stupid ideas?

I’m not sure if we should trust Chinese vehicles. Ok, I don’t anyways, but still, here’s one reason YOU shouldn’t. A Chinese driver was driving along (do-do-doop-doop) and turned a corner. Suddenly it felt like the car was flying through the air. Well, it was. It actually ended up landing on the roof of a house. I don’t know about you, but I really wouldn’t feel very safe driving a car that can be picked up so easily. Reminds me in a way of those Mercedes race cars that flew through the air/flipped every race a couple years ago.

What was I saying about Americans and their religion 2 days ago/yesterday? Oh ya, that they are bat-shit crazy! My case just keeps getting stronger all the time. What would you do if your mother (elderly) passed out as you were putting on her underwear? Well, to this crazy woman, she propped her mother on the toilet then called her self-described bishop. Her “bishop” told her “told her to leave the woman alone and pray for her”. He said “he had received signs that God would raise her from the dead with a miracle”. This was over 2 MONTHS ago. Needless to say her mother was rotting away in the bathroom and she just kept covering up the smell with incense. The crazy woman’s sister called the police to go and check on her mother because it’s been so long since she was able to get in contact with her. The officer arrived and the woman wouldn’t let him in (surprising!). Eventually she agreed to let him in and he found the body on the toilet. Fanaticism is bad, ummkay?

Scientists have created the fourth electronic circuit element! It is called a Memristor. Basically it’s a resistor with a memory. This is the culmination of over 37 years of research and development. HP labs are the first to actually make functioning prototypes of this device. Why is it important? Because in a few years time this could be in EVERY circuit board. I, for one am happy to see this, though I wonder how HP became the new IBM.

To close, just a personal recommendation: see Iron Man. It really is a very good movie. See it in theaters, it’s worth it. Be sure to stay tuned after the VERY LONG credits (really wish I would have timed it) to see the ending of this movie. It was funny because probably 90% of the movie-goers left the theater during the credits. I stayed and forced Shannon (my woman) to. I don’t know if the people behind me heard me say why to her or if they knew themselves but they stayed as well. The credits were so long I am positive EVERYBODY who did anything at all for the movie got in the credits. Yes, even Bubba who caught the rat that was running around, you are probably in there too.

Going to start off with a bit of member submitted news. Unfortunately the source I was linked to is a site I hate above all else. Fortunately I have better links. Apparently 3-4 teens are accused of digging up a grave, stealing the skull, and converting it into a bong. It turns out the skull belongs to a 11 year old boy by the name of Willie Simms, who died in 1921. Stupidly, the teens even left the grave open, which flooded with water, so the police haven’t opened it up yet to see if the rest of the boy’s body is still there. I don’t know if they thought they would get some special kind of high, or would be haunted the rest of their lives, or if they just did it for the cool factor. I think these journalists really need to dig deep and do some investigative reporting as to the effects one would hope to achieve by doing this.

Every week it seems I have another reason to believe people in Texas are crazy. This newest case comes from a couple that forced their kids to perform sexual acts for an audience. The mom and other defendants began teaching these children how to perform these sexual acts at the age of 5. They were also given drugs, which the adults called “silly pills,” to help them perform. The only bright side that might come of this is that these kids could become sex gods/goddesses later in life. Sure there’s the emotional issues and she cries every night, but damn is she good in the sack!

Well, it turns out at least one manager at Walgreens is a total dickwad. A woman falls into a diabetic coma, if saved by 2 employees and an off duty officer using some of their products, and the manager goes and tries to get her to pay for the crap. The funny thing is, if he didn’t do that, then everybody would be proud of the store and it’s employees and they might get more business out of it. Now they look like tools and this will drive away some business. What an idiot.

Apparently this next story’s a bit of a heated debate. I don’t really see why, I’ll explain. If your dog runs into the street and is hit by a car, who’s fault is it? Ok, I know there’s going to be some of you who think it’s the driver’s fault, but you’re WRONG. Why? Because the dog in question is a min-pin, one of the ugliest, yappiest little furry pieces of shit in the world. The driver of the car agrees with me. He got his car fixed and sued for the cost of the repair and his time off work to get it repaired, NOTHING MORE. Sounds reasonable to me. Well, the owners have counter sued for “cost to buy Fester, the time they had to take off work for court appearances, and the cost of buying a dog to replace Fester”. Now, that seems a bit overkill to me. It’s a 13 year old dog! How are you entitled in any way to recoup the cost of him? It’s like if somebody hit the Avenger (my 1995 Avenger). Could I sue them for the money I spent to buy it in the first place and the money to buy a new car? No. As a side note, I find the name Fester for a min-pin quite suiting, as owning one would fester a hatred for every living thing.

Talk about going from rags to riches, this guy went form hurricane survivor to winning $97 million. All I can really say is congratulations.

I dunno about you, but where I come from, we clean our shoes after stepping in shit. We don’t go around suing people to buy us new shoes. This woman should be stripped and whipped (hmm…catchy sounding). I’m really starting to wonder why the USA doesn’t start doing extreme punishment for people suing for cases like this. Woman took her family to an aquarium. Her son stepped in dog shit. Thinking “oh, we drove so far” they decided to go to the aquarium anyways. They cleaned him up and went around the aquarium after buying tickets. For some reason she threw out the shoes and had him walk around bare-footed. The whole experience “was awful” so they left shortly after an hour and bought him new shoes. She’s not suing because she’s a fucking idiot. She even wants the cost of parking and the entry fee (which she bought AFTER the incident to be reimbursed.

Maybe that lady should be thrown to a grumpy, hungry giant freaking bear. Yes, it’s a classic tale of man meets bear. Man fights bear. Man loses and struggles to survive. He drove 25 kilometers to the nearest “settlement” aka town and got help. Luckily he had his face buried in mud or his face would have been all torn up.

Americans take their churches WAY too seriously. Who knew trying to get some much needed funds by placing a cell phone tower on their roof could cause such debate. GOD SMITES YOU EVIL CHURCH!!!

Well, I think hell has finally frozen over. China is starting to outsource it’s manufacturing to the USA. All the smart people knew it would happen eventually, but still, I’m sure you crazy Americans are shocked.

As much as I like drug dealers, I really think they deserved this. It takes serious balls to go after big time multi-million dollar drug dealer by holding the families hostage and torturing the dealers. I actually applaud this group of people. They took and idea and ran with it. They made the dealers fear to do their business. They were helping clean up the streets. The only problem I have is that they started stealing their cocaine and selling it themselves. If they didn’t do that they would be great!

In more personal news, I recommend you all to go out and buy Traction magazine. Not the IUK one about trains, but the new car one. It’s geared towards all the people who gre up modifying economy cars but have grown up, have more money and can afford beamers, mercs, ect. It’s also a bit of a lifestyle magazine. This month’s issue has a neat interview with a really cool guy named Timothy Ferriss. He’s the author of The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich. It’s a very good interview and you really get a sense of who he is and what he stands for.

That’s it for this edition of In The News for May 9 (10 now), 2008. Till next time!

XM Radio Canada

It appears that XM Canada really does listen to it’s customers. By customers I mean they listen to me. This is the second time they have implemented something I requested (really can’t remember the first at the moment but I remember them implementing something a few weeks after they called my cell to get my opinion on their service). This time I filled out a survey for them online. At the end there was a section for additional comments. I left a comment saying that in Red Deer, Alberta we have a lot of buildings, especially downtown that will kill your signal and it would be nice to have a repeater. For those of you who don’t know already, repeaters have only been in the BIG cities like Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. Not even Edmonton and Calgary have any, or at least didn’t last time I checked. Well, we now have one in Red Deer. There is also one in Mississauga, Ontario. These are the only two places to get new ones. This leaves me feeling a little flabbergasted because I doubt anybody else here would have left that comment and this is a small city.

Anyways, I want to thank XM Canada for implementing this. They at least listen to me, and I’m all that really matters anyways :P It is nice to know that they do listen to people though and don’t take these surveys lightly.

Yes, it has been a while since an update. Sorry. I’ve been working a lot and sleeping when I haven’t been. There’s been quite a few stories to catch my eye since the last update so I will post them all here. It will be pretty long.

Some people really make me mad. People who blame video games or do anything to lead one to assume it’s a video game’s fault really make me mad. Stop doing stupid shit to make fuckers like Jack Thompson come after gaming companies! Speaking of that dickwad, follow the link in his name. What a dick. “I’ll tell your mommy! WAHHH!”

I wonder how many missing children really have something as strange as this happen to them. Something is definitely wrong with that man. That woman will never be normal, never. There is no way she could integrate herself into society after all these years. There is no way she will go a day without thinking of the things he did to her. I really feel bad for her. It really makes me wonder just how many more people are doing this to their kids though.

Now I present to you the story that will possibly change medical science forever! This man chopped off the tip of his finger. They couldn’t find the end. He went to the doctor, nothing they could do. He got sent a powder he refers to as pixie dust (ya, I know what you’re thinking). He sprinkled a bit on the tip every day and his finger regrew! How fucking kick ass is that??? If there is one story you check out in this post, it has to be this one. Click the link, there’s even a video.

Today’s Special: Penis

Ah, I love odd stories. I especially love ones that make no sense and leave you with a sense of indescency. I have no idea what to say really. On one hand I think the idea of phone sex is absurd. On the other I really have to laugh at how preposterous this whole issue is.

In a story that is sure to make MANY UK women very happy, scientists are seeking 150 women to eat chocolate every day for a year in the cause of medical research. To sum it up, it’s special chocolate. it is supposed to reduce your risk of heart disease.

I’m still trying to figure out why the woman was actually with the guy in this last story. She and her boyfriend were watching a porn at 10am when she goes psycho. Check the story to find out why. Pick out the things wrong with the whole picture. Laugh at how stupid people can be.

Those are really the stories that held my attention since the last update. There’s a couple more I could post, but they’re not really remarkable in any way so I won’t. Didn’t end up being as long as I thought it would. Hopefully you have been enlightened.
